Motorcycle keys get turned away by a lot of locksmiths, usually because the systems vary far more between manufacturers than car keys do. We take them on, with one condition: we confirm what your bike actually needs before coming out, rather than turning up and finding out.

What we do

  • Lost motorcycle keys, where no working key remains.
  • Spare keys made from an existing working key.
  • Ignition keys.
  • Transponder keys, on bikes that use them.

All of it at the bike, whether that is a garage, a driveway or a parking lot.

Why we ask questions first

Motorcycle key systems are far less standardized than cars. Two bikes from the same manufacturer a few years apart can need completely different approaches. Some use a simple mechanical key, some use a transponder, and some use immobilizer systems that only the manufacturer can work with.

So before anything is scheduled we want the year, make and model, and whether you still have a working key. That call takes two minutes and it means we either arrive able to do the job, or we tell you honestly that your bike is one for the dealer.

We would rather say no on the phone than take a trip charge for a job we cannot finish.

ATV, UTV and powersports keys

Motorcycle keys are only part of the powersports work we handle. We also make replacement and duplicate keys for many ATVs, UTVs, scooters, side-by-sides and other supported powersports vehicles.

Depending on the machine, the job may involve cutting a mechanical key, creating a key when no original is available, or programming a transponder-equipped key. Availability depends on the make, model, year and key system, so the same rule applies as with motorcycles: give us the details and we will confirm before scheduling anything.

What to have ready

  • Year, make and model.
  • Whether you have any working key.
  • Whether the bike has a transponder or immobilizer system, if you know.
  • Proof the bike is yours: registration or title with matching ID.

Common questions

Can you make a motorcycle key with no original?

Often yes, depending on the bike. Some machines make this straightforward and some make it a dealer-only job. Call with the year, make and model and we will tell you which yours is.

Do motorcycle keys have chips like car keys?

Some do and some do not. Older and simpler bikes often use a plain mechanical key. Newer machines increasingly use transponders and immobilizers.

Can you come to the bike?

Yes, the same as with cars. Garage, driveway or parking lot.

Should I get a spare made?

More so than with a car. Motorcycle keys are smaller, easier to lose, and replacing a lost one with no original is harder than it is on a car. If you have one working key, a spare is cheap insurance.

Do you make keys for ATVs, UTVs and side-by-sides?

For many of them, yes. Powersports key systems vary as much as motorcycle ones do. Tell us the make, model and year and whether you still have a working key, and we will confirm before scheduling.

Will you tell me if you cannot do it?

Yes, on the phone, before either of us wastes a trip.
